In select patients, Dr. Weiss might be able to offer robotic single umbilical incision surgery to remove the gallbladder. This is done under general anesthesia and takes about an hour. It is an outpatient procedure - patients can go home the same day. Patients have liquids the day of surgery and resume a regular diet the next day. Patients can usually return to work and full activities within a few days, although lifting anything greater than 25 lbs. is not recommended for 3 weeks after surgery to minimize the risk of incisional hernia formation.
Dr. Weiss performs robotic single incision cholecystectomy for selected patients depending on factors such as BMI, anatomy and previous abdominal surgeries.
